THE QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Immaculate Conception Parish is pleased to announce "The Question of the Week". Each week you will find a question here in the bulletin and also on our parish website at IC-Parish.com The purpose of the question is to provide you with an opportunity to consider the Gospel message a little more personally. You are encouraged to discuss your thoughts with family members and parish family members. We have also included a "Question of the Week" for the younger members of our parish family.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Trust in the Lord

Reading I: Genesis 18:20-32  Spared for the Innocent
Reading II: Colossians 2:12-14  Forgiven Transgressions
Gospel: Luke 11:1-13  Ask and You Will Receive

Adults—What are my deepest needs? What keeps me from bringing these needs to God and asking God for help in meeting these needs?

Children—What can I do each day to improve the frequency and the quality of my prayer?

HELP A KID GO TO CAMP ALVERNA!

From August 9—12 13, the Spirituality and Nature Center at Alverna Heights is hosting a week-long day camp for children from Syracuse’s inner city. Children from areas near Brady Faith Center, St. Lucy and St. John the Evangelist churches, and Franciscan Northside Ministries will have an opportunity to participate free of charge in Camp Alverna. Children will be able to connect with God’s creation, learn about nature, peacemaking, and caring for the earth. Campers will receive breakfast and lunch, participate in crafts, swim, hike, and enjoy the great outdoors! We are blessed with some donations and volunteers who offer a whole week of their time, however we still have expenses associated with running the camp. Would you like to sponsor a child for $50 for the week? We are very excited to be offering this camp again and the kids are excited about returning. Please make checks payable to Sisters of St. Francis—Camp Alverna and mail to Sister Elizabeth John, 1118 Court Street, Suite 32, Syracuse, NY 13208. We are very grateful for your consideration.

AN INVITATION TO RISING COLLEGE SENIORS:

Your final year of college is just around the corner! Many opportunities for professional jobs and/or graduate schools await you. However, as you consider your post-graduate future, we invite you to consider giving back to your community in a year of faith-based volunteer service with other young adults. FrancisCorps is a year-long, Catholic-Christian volunteer program for recently graduated college men and women, 21-25. Our volunteers live together, pray together, and play together as they minister to the underserved in Syracuse, New York and San Jose, Costa Rica.
Visit our website for more information: www.franciscorps.org or contact Brother Jim Moore, francorps@gmail.com or at 426-0481.

ONE SHOT DEAL
Person to Person Hostesses for Parade of Homes

Person to Person—a local non-profit, provides volunteers who advocate for adults with developmental disabilities.
Person to Person needs volunteer hostesses for three of the homes at Parade of Homes Sept 18 thru Oct 3rd. By providing hostesses, Person to Person is able to raise money for the important work they do.
This year, Parade of Homes is in Mallards Landing in Manlius. The shifts for hostessing are Monday—Saturday, 1:00-4:30 and 4:30- 8:00. Sunday, 1:00—3:00 and 3:00—6:00. The Social Justice Committee is helping Person to Person recruit hostesses. If you are interested in helping, please contact Barbara Sullivan at 637-8681 by August 13th and we will put you on the schedule.

F.I.S.H.

“Friends in Service Here” serves the Fayetteville-Manlius-Minoa community by providing volunteer drivers to seniors in need of transportation to medical and dental appointments. Driving for F.I.S.H. not only helps those in our community, but allows the driver the opportunity to meet some wonderful seniors who could not live independently without such service. Drivers may elect to be scheduled 1 day each month or to be called on an as-needed basis. They may be reimbursed for mileage if desired. During this Lenten season, please consider that “giving up” a little time to drive for F.I.S.H. can be very rewarding for the driver. Interested? Please call 637-1938.
